Here, you can download some pre-made logbooks for some lists
of objects. You can use these for observing projects.
These are huge files (100s of Megabytes), so you sure want
to check out some sample pages
before you download.
Known issue with this version: Coordinates of bright stars are slightly off, due to a misinterpretation of the Hipparcos catalog epoch as J2000.0 instead of J1991.25. It should, however, not really affect usability significantly. Just know that the positions of bright stars may be off by about 1 or 2 arcminutes.
- 110 Messier objects
- One page per object
- Only one finder chart per object (~ 20 degrees FOV)
- Small DSS image
- Binocular, naked eye and city observability icons
- Programmatically selected set of 176 bright non-Messier galaxies,
expected to be visible in 6" and 8" telescopes.
- Two pages per object
- Three finder charts of different zoom-levels and
limiting magnitudes
- Large DSS images
Additional Bright Galaxies
(select File → Download to download)
- Programmatically selected set of 64 additional bright
galaxies, less bright than the "Bright Galaxies"
book.
- Expected to be visible in 6" and 8" telescopes, but
may take some experience.
- Two pages per object
- Three finder charts of different zoom-levels and
limiting magnitudes
- Large DSS images
- Programmatically selected set of NGC/IC globular
clusters.
- Expected to be visible in 6" and 8" telescopes with
reasonable experience, except for three challenge
globular clusters at the end.
- Two pages per object
- Three finder charts of different zoom-levels and
limiting magnitudes
- Large DSS images
- All 99 Hickson's Compact Groups.
- A challenging list of objects to observe.
- Higher star density for easier star-hopping.
- Multiple FOV symbols for easier star-hopping.
- Two pages per object
- Three finder charts of different zoom-levels and
limiting magnitudes
- Large DSS images
